Colette's Top Ten Newport Restaurant picks

22 Bowens

22 Bowens   An upscale steakhouse with gluten free options. I highly recommend the veal chop.   Enjoy a drink with "Uncle Joe" inside or Craig outdoors and check out their superb wine list.

The Black Pearl

Black Pearl.  If you're a seafood lover and want an intimate dining experience, book reservations in the Commodore room overlooking the harbor.  The candle lit room requires jackets for men.

Clarke Cooke House

The Sky Bar at the Clarke Cooke House.  A menu for discerning palates with a variety of options and five star service.  CCH is open year round, but the Sky Bar is exclusive to summer outdoor dining and is situated on the top floor of the CCH, a mansion converted into a five floor restaurant and disco.   After dinner, you can dance under the stars or downstairs in the Boom Boom room.  Be sure to get there early as red velvet ropes and bouncers limit entrance to this highly sought after night spot.

White Horse Tavern

Nothing is more romantic than winter dining at the White Horse Tavern.   It’s the oldest tavern in America and allegedly still visited by spirits of the past. Be sure to book your reservation early and get a seat in front of the fireplace.  Their Beef Wellington is a house specialty and personal favorite.

Bouchard

If you love French cuisine (which I do), Bouchard will take you to the heart of Paris. The highly skilled staff will make your dining experience as memorable as the food.  Make your reservations a week early or you'll never get in.

Castle Hill Inn

Castle Hill.  The dining is equally as fabulous as the magnificent ocean views.  There is a wide variety of options, but I highly recommend the Portuguese stew.  Sunday brunch is a must do in Newport and you'll never get a table unless you call well in advance during the summer.  There is also the option of dining at the outdoor bar where it's first come, first serve.   The views alone are worth the price of the meal.

The Spiced Pear

The Spiced Pear.  What is not to love about dining on top of the ocean cliff rocks with sweeping views of First Beach?  The upscale menu has a variety of choices and one the best wine lists in Newport.  The indoor and outdoor bar has unique drinks you won't find anyplace else.   There is also an outdoor fire pit where you can make s’mores for dessert.

The Moorings

The Moorings.  Great seafood and historic downtown location on the water with free parking.  Downtown summer parking can be a Newport challenge.

Perro Salado

Perro Salado serves delicious Mexican inspired dishes.  Organic and locally grown ingredients make this place a town favorite.  Live music and salty margaritas make for a great night out.

La Forge

La Forge serves food till 10 pm but the best time to go is in the afternoon. The back dining room overlooks the Tennis Hall of Fame.  The grass courts and adjoining courtyard are spectacular to observe while dining on their world famous lobster salad, a house specialty they've been serving for 34 years.
