1. Mansion tours
There are more than a dozen mansions to tour which give you a front row seat to the Gilded Age. Many movies were filmed at these opulent estates. You'll get an inside look into American Royalty and even a glimpse as to how the billionaire next door lives since the mansions are intermingled with privately owned homes.
2. Cliff Walk
This 3.5 mile path follows along the cliff rocks along the ocean at Newport and behind the Victorian age Bellevue Avenue mansions.
3. Fort Adams
The fort has over 180 years of American history and military culture to learn about and explore. It’s the largest costal fortification in the United States. Spectacular views of the Newport Harbor. This is also the location for the world famous Newport Folk Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, and sailing events.
Plenty of beaches to put up an umbrella and surf. My favorite is "First Beach" where there is a merry-go-round for kids and adults too.
Newport has blocks of shopping in a quaint town with cobble stone streets. There plenty of places to get treats along the way including popcorn, saltwater taffy, Del's lemonade, and a Kilwin's candy shop.
